Mt. Canlaon Volcano remain in the Alert level 1 status as it erupted Tuesday, March 29, 2016 around 6:30 PM.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology(Philvocs) said the ash eruption from the crater lasted around 12 minutes and was heard a booming sound in La Carlota City Negros Occidental and Brgy. Pula, Canlaon City Negros Oriental.

The agency said that eruption produced a 1.5 km. high ask column and that traces of light ashfall were reported. Since a similareruption in November 2015, Phivolcs has placed Mount Kanlaon on Alert level 1, which means it is experiencing abnormal conditions and it is in a period of unrest.

The local government units are not allowing people to enter the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone(PDZ). Entry is strictly prohibited " due to the further possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phereatic eruptions." Authorities are still monitoring the volcano's activity, the volcano which has been one of the most active in the country, last erupted December 27, 2015.
