The catholic church hierarchy has openly expressed their opposition to the candidacy of a Presidential aspirant who advocate violence and killings. The catholic bishops conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President and Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas in December wrote on hi Facebook his thoughts about Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
Many other bishops in the catholic church have appealed voters to re-examine their conscience if they are supporting this candidate.
On the other hand one catholic priest surprisingly expressed his opinion regarding Mayor Duterte's advocacy,"It is a joke, pero kung marami dito ang dapat patayin na involved in the criminalizes, corruption and drugs, I am with him (Duterte)," said Fr. Lorenzo Bautista the rector of Masbate Cathedral.
