Mayor Duterte's BPI balance account is P27,000 not P211 M

On Saturday the camp of Mayor Duterte released a bank document showing his BPI account branch on Julia Vargas Avenue in Pasig City with the balance of about P27,000.

Duterte's camp said that the bank statement showed his account at the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) that he did not own millions in the bank as alleged by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.

"The BPI official statement belies the claim of Senator Trillanes that Mayor Duterte has a big deposit at BPI amounting to P211 million," Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) spokesperson Paola Alvarez said.

The summary of the transactions showed that from Dec.31, 2015, to March 31, the mayor had a balance amounting to P17,668, which increased to P27,024.09 by April 29.

Alvarez quoted Jose Teodoro Limcaoco, managing director and chief financial officer of Ayala Corp. owner of BPI, as saying there had been no breach of client confidentiality amid the controversy surrounding the BPI account of Duterte.

"Our internal investigation reveals that there has been no such breach. I don't know where Senator Trillanes got his information, but the graphic posted by the (Philippine Daily Inquirer), showing alleged credits, that is not a BPI document," Limcaoco said.

"The deposit slip shown by Mar roxas or the Inquirer is not a unique thing. All banks will show the name of the depositor on a deposit slip," he said." We are committed to protecting clients trust and preserving the trust bestowed on us by our clients all these years."
