Philippine Coast Guard to receive first brand new multirole ship from Japan on August 2016

The Philippine Coast Guard will be receiving its first 44m multirole vessel in August 2016 from Japan Maritime United Corporation(JMUC). The new vessel will significantly improve fisheries protection and maritime patrol capabilities.

The first multirole response vessel (MRRV) of the Philippine coastguard (PCG) will be delivered in August 2016, report in IHS Jane's website.

The first of the ten vessel ordered to Japan Maritime United Corporation(JMUC) is part of the PHP8.8billion (USD191 million) contract signed between the Philippine Department of Transportation and Communications(DOTC) and JMUC in 2015. The first MRRV has been named Tubbataha 4401.

The 44m vessel has 7.5m and a depth of 4m. The vessel is powered by two MTU 12V 4000 M93L diesel engines and has a standard cruising speed of 15 kt. The ship can accomodate a crew of 25, including 5 officer.

DOTC has said that it will deploy the ship for search-and-rescue operation, marine pollution control, fishery areas protection, and maritime patrol duties.

The PCG are expected to deliver all the remaining platforms by the third quarter of 2018.
