More sinkholes found in Kabankalan City after mild quake

Kabankalan City CDRRMO has intensified its monitoring efforts on the reported sinkholes at Barangay Tagucon. Following to the magnitude 3.4 earthquake in the neighboring Mabinay town in Negros Oriental Sunday noon, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) noted that the sinkhole increases the depth and width at about one meter respectively.

According to Engr. Judson Cabalatungan,based on their assessment, the sinkhole now has a depth of 13 ft and width of almost 15ft. Adding that the epicenter of the earthquake was only 18 kilometers away from Tagucon, thus its coordinates could really reach the Barangay. 

"We noticed that there is no water inside thus, there is a possibility that it subside to a deeper portion of the sinkhole," Cabalatungan if there are movement on the ground."said, adding that " this is something to watch for especially if there are movements on the ground."

The sinkhole was already fenced and advised residents to stay away from the area. Residents on the area claimed that around 20 other sinkholes was seen in the area.
