PH DND completed inspections for Raytheon Missile System

Philippines - Department of National Defense (DND) has completed post qualification inspections for Raytheon Missile System Co. in the United States for the Lead-in fighter trainer aircraft munitions acquisitions.

MaxDefense reported that Raytheon is working out with the Defense Department to supply AIM-9L/I-1 sidewinder air-to-air missiles for the Philippine Air Force FA-50 Fighting Eagle.

The F/SAA/LIFT Munitions Lot 1 where Raytheon is in the running is for the supply AIM-9L/I-1 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles for the Philippine Air Force's FA-50 Fighting Eagle aircraft and any future aircraft capable of carrying and firing the missiles.

A decrease on the Approved Budget for Contract (ABC) was made from Php 2.636 billion for 312 missiles, to Php 1.016 billion for unspecified number of AIM-9L/I-1 missiles including associated accessories and support.

It also appears that the PAF hs underestimated the pricing of the missiles without considering escalation and other costs, so it is expected that the PAF didn't use the same estimated cost they made some years ago. Budget decrease was also made as the PAF opted to increase the budget to acquire AGM-65G Maverick missiles instead, diverting almost half the original ABC for F/SAA/LIFT Munitions Lot 1 to Lot 2.
