The Spain dominated the game and seemed overwhelmed as its first time in this tournament and their first knock-out stage with host nation crowd power.
After a 1-1 tie that extended through 90 minutes of regulations and 30 minutes of overtime. The deciding moment came when Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev used his left foot to kick away Iago Aspas's (Spain) fifth penalty attempt. All over the game Russia dominated, but a penalty kick by Artem Dzyuba before halftime allowed them to tie on 1-1.
Spain had all the ball but struggle hard in the terrific defensive effort by Russia. The Russian team goes wild as the crowd cheers on their advancement to the quarterfinals. Russia was considered one of the weakest teams in the tournament and Spain one of the favorites.
