Taiwan train derailment kills at least 22 and 171 injured

A train carrying 366 passengers that derailed in Yilan County in Northeastern Taiwan resulted to the death of 22 people and 171 others injured.

The train was traveling between the cities of Shulin and Taitung when the accident happened on Sunday. It is not yet clear what caused the train to derail, but witnesses told local media that they heard a loud noise of sparks and smoke.

Emergency medical responders are helping the injured and later announced that they have freed everyone from the wreckage.
