Marine Engineer Jonathan Salvador, owner of Metallica Shipyard in town of New Washington, Aklan in Iloilo has developed a prototype inter-island hybrid vessel that you might experience in the future.

The trimaran, which is being developed with the help from the Department of Science and Technology will use double-action hydraulic pumps on its outriggers to generate its own electrical supply from the waves while the vessel is moving.
Engr. Salvador said that the hybrid-powered trimaran is now more than 50% finished and it is expected to for sea trial on the first quarter of 2020.
If things goes well, this can be the Philippines first ever state of the art next generation prototype hybrid inter-island vessel that will run cleaner and more cheaper than conventional ships.
