Brazilian Valentina Sampaio is the first transgender model to join the world's known underwear brand. The news was unveiled after Valentina posted a photo of herself on Instagram using the hashtags #vspink, #campaign and #diversity from an upcoming Pink campaign due out soon.

The announcement was followed a few weeks later by a report that L Brands chief marketing officer Ed Razek would be retiring. In 2018, L Brands Chief Ed Razek disagreed to feature transgender models in Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
Razek was backlashed by a trans influencer, Nikita Dragun with a tweet and a video teasing the Victoria Secret ad.
Razek later apologized after gaining more hate for his comment in a statement published on Victoria's Secret Twitter account.
L Brands CEO, Les Wexner released a memo to employee after receiving backlash online:
"Fashion is a business of change. We must evolve and change to grow. With that mind, we have decided to re-think the traditional Victoria's Secret Show. Going forward we don't believe network television is the right fit. In 2019 and beyond, we're focusing on developing exciting and dynamic content and a new kind of event - delivered to our customers on platforms that she's gued to...and in ways that will push the boundaries of fashion in the global digital age."
