Carlos Edriel Yulo the first Filipino to win gold medal at the world championships secured ticket for 2020 Tokyo Olympics

The Philippine gymnast athlete Carlos Edriel Yulo was the first in the Southeast Asian male gymnast to capture the World's Gymnastics Gold title. The 19-year-old Yulo scored 15.3 points to defeat Artem Dolgopyat of Israel (15.2) and China's Xiao Ruoteng (14.933).

His excellent performance will relieved him of the pressure to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Yulo ended up 18th in the all-around qualifiers with a total of 82.164 points and secured himself in a slot of Tokyo Summer Olympics.

Yulo is the second Filipino athletes next to vaulter EJ Obiena, the first Filipino to qualify for the next year's Tokyo Olympics.

Yulo was improved on his historic performances with the help of his Japanese coach Munehiro Kugimiya. He won bronze at the 2019 Doha World Cup and a gold at the 2019 Melbourne World Cup Gymnastics.
