Sipalay City Vice Mayor Sentenced To Six Years Imprisonment For Graft Case

In its final ruling the Sandiganbayan 4th Division sentenced former Sipalay City mayor and current Vice Mayor Oscar C. Montilla to six years and one month in prison for delaying the suspension of the five city government employees. 

The suspension order was dated November 14, 2005 but only implemented on January 3, 2012, despite of repeated reminders from the Ombudsman.

The court also ruled that Montilla be perpetually disqualified from public office.

In a 24 page decision of the anti-graft court promulgated on October 11, 2019 found Montilla guilty of the crime violating Section 3(e) of the anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices act or RA 3019 by giving undue benefit and advantage to five Sipalay City, City Hall employees by delaying their suspension as ordered by the Office of the Ombudsman.

The suspension order was implemented dated November 14, 2005 but was implemented by the mayor only on January 3, 2012 despite of the repeated reminders from the Ombudsman.
