Spooked by fake news delays cremation of Ph's first Novel coronavirus fatality

False information about the deadly Wuhan virus had caused delayed on the cremation of the Chinese national who died four days ago of the virus, the first fatality in the Philippines.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III told DZMM that the cremation of the 44-year-old Chinese national who died four days ago wasn't yet cremated, and his body was still "sealed" inside a body bag. 

Added that the funeral parlor that was supposed to cremate the body has backed out. He said that the company was scared of cremating the dead body, might affect their business image.

He reiterate that the DOH already has difficult tasks, adding that misinformation, which is more faster to spread makes their job even more difficult.  




The Secretary is asking for journalists that be an instruments of evidence-based reports, "so that we can at least convince our countrymen to not believe in fake news," Duque added.  

Duque added that, according to the World Health Organization, if someone dies of the virus, they can no longer infect anyone else.

He said he ordered to look for a public cemetery that may do the cremation, stressing that the days for cremation has since passed.

He, however, assured that the remains of the Chinese man is in a sealed body bag and should not cause worry of virus spread.
