Bela Padilla raises over P1 million donations for street vendors affected by community quarantine in 2 days

In an effort to feed the poor people especially the homeless affected by the community quarantine implemented in Metro Manila from March 15 to April 14. Actress Bela Padilla on Sunday launched an online fund-raising campaign, setting the target at P1-million.

The enhanced community quarantine has forced people to stay at home due to the rapid spreading of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

On Twitter, the Kapamilya actress ears her concerns for the street vendors who survive only on their daily wage and how she can be able to extend help for their basic needs.

"How do the taho, sampaguita, chips and basahan vendors we see on EDSA who probably sold close to nothing today eat tonight. And tomorrow? And the whole month? Is there anyone I can go to, to talk about this and hopefully help out? :).” Padilla said in a Twitter post.

On a separate post on Twitter, she came up into a solution on how to help those were severely affected by the government effort to the month long community quarantine.

“The best solution I came up with is for us to donate. I set up an account, and whatever money we do raise, let’s split 16 ways for the 16 cities of Metro Manila affected by this community quarantine,” the actress said on her Twitter account. She assured donors that all money they will raise through the initiative will "go to the right people."

As of this posting, GoGetFunding page which she captioned 'pagkain para sa pinoy," has already exceeded its target in a matter of two days where it achieved a total of PHP1,370,536.
