Selena Gomez reveals bipolar diagnoses for first time during live conversation with Miley Cyrus

Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus had this Instagram Live on Friday in which Gomez openly revealed she was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

"Recently, I went to one of the best mental hospitals in America, McLean Hospital, and I discussed that after years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar," Gomez said. "And so when I got to know more information, it actually helps me. It doesn't scare me once I know it," she added.

After finding out the diagnoses, Selena said she felt both terrified and relieved.

“Terrified because the veil was lifted but relieved that I finally had the knowledge of why I had suffered with various depressions and anxieties for so many years.

“I never had full awareness or answers about this condition. When I have more information, it actually helps me, it doesn’t scare me once I know it,” she further explained.

Bipolar, previously called “manic depression”, is a serious mental health condition where people experience significant swings in mood, with episodes of hyperactivity and depression.

The star went on to explain how using social media so much was negatively affecting her mood and self-esteem.

“It would make me depressed, it would make me feel not good about myself, and look at my body differently,” Gomez said.

The two sent a message of love and encouraged others to donate to non-profit organizations helping the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic.

"I'm so happy to have you on the show and got to reconnect," Cyrus told Gomez. "Send me butterflies any time. When all this has moved on and we can connect, we'll just hug."
