PH pole vault Natalie Uy sets new record in U.S. Acadia tilt

Filipino-American pole vaulter Natalie Uy set new record as she broke her own Philippine National Record during Acadia Invitational in Greenville, North Carolina.

Uy breaks her previous 4.25 meters SEA Games record leapt to 4.30 meters at UCS Pink Panther Pit. and settled sixth place. She joined nine other pole vaulters including American Olympian Sandi Morris, two-time US indoor champion Katie Nageotte and two-time outdoor NCAA champion Olivia Gruver.




Her new record will bolster her bid to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic as she aims to clear 4.7 meters for Olympic standard once qualification resumes.

“It was amazing. It was so great just to be around the girls [and] to just have the energy again,” said Uy in an interview with ESPN.

“Obviously with the quarantine and everything, it’s been really tough to self-motivate by yourself working out. So just being around all the girls with the crowd, it’s been absolutely incredible,” she added.


Sandi Morris controlled the game after clearing 4.81 meter on her first attempt, followed by Nageotte with the same mark on her third try.
