3-year-old boy gets the suspected bubonic plague in China

A 3-year-old boy from a remote village in China was diagnosed with a suspected case of bubonic plague, the Global Times reported.

To prevent the spread of the plague, authorities had launched level-IV emergency response. It was the first case detected in the province so far, citing local officials in Menghai county.

According to the report, the boy has suffered from a mild infection, but in stable condition after receiving proper medication.

The case was discovered during a county-wide screening after three rats were found dead for unknown reasons in a village, the report said.

Authorities urged the public to seek medical attention in the presence of fever and warned against the spreading and believing in rumors. As part of the emergency response, the teams are focusing on eradicating fleas and rodents throughout the county.

The cases of the plague sparked public concerns in August when it was reported in Northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
