Angelo Kouame officially gets Filipino citizenship

Angelo Kouame has finally granted Filipino citizenship after his naturalization process was completed and signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte. The Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas' (SBP) president Al S. Panlilio expressed thanks to President Duterte and other officials who help the whole process.

“The SBP extends our appreciation to President Rodrigo Duterte for signing it into law and Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and Senator Bong Go for their assistance,” Panlilio said.

The 6-foot-10 Kouame, 23, with average 12.5 points, 11.8 rebounds is currently with Gilas Pilipinas in the training bubble in the National University (NU) Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.

Kouame will now required to complete the requirements mandated by FIBA for a naturalized player to be able to play for his new country.

“We are confident that he’ll be able to play during our hosting of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers and the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Serbia,” Panlilio said.

Kouame's naturalization will help boost the national basketball team journey to 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers next month in Clark, Pampanga.
