Philippines to receive 40 million Pfizer doses by Q3 this year

 The Philippines is about to receive a 40 million doses of Pfizer made COVID-19 vaccines and it is expected to be delivered by the third quarter this year. The latest development of the country's efforts to speed up its immunization drive could be the biggest supply deal for the vaccines in 2021. 





"Pfizer have finally concluded our negotiations," COVID-19 Chief Implementer and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said in a statement on Sunday.  He added that he and secretary Duque have already signed the supply agreement.





With the latest deal, the Philippines has now secured the delivery of 113 million doses from five vaccine manufacturers namely, AstraZeneca (17 million doses), Sinovac (26 million doses), Sputnik V (10 million doses), Moderna (20 million doses), and Pfizer (40 million doses).





He urged local government units to be ready for the arrivals to ensure "third party logistics and cold chain service providers for very sensitive vaccines like Pfizer, Moderna, and Sputnik V.





"It will significantly boost our national immunisation programme and will enable us to realise our goal of achieving herd immunity by year-end," Galvez said.



Meanwhile, the COVAX facility has alao committed to deliver a total of 44 million doses, bringing to 157 million doses the total number of doses secured by the Philippines.
