An online learning platform 'Nas Academy' which was created by Nuseir Yassin aka Nas Daily has taken down its online course featuring tattoo master Apo Whang-Od after her grandniece called it a 'scam'. According to the granddaughter, Nas Academy, allegedly using Apo Whang-Od without their consent.
Whang-Od is known for her traditional tattoo technique from the Butbut tribe of Buscalan, Kalinga. She is known as the oldest "mambabatok" and was recognized by the National Commission for Culture and Arts.
On a Facebook post by Grace Palicas which has also been deleted, she acknowledge the good intentions but she explained that her grandmother did not sign any contract with Nas Daily to be part in the tattoo workshops.
"Some people are taking advantage of our culture. Please help us stop this disrespect to the legacy of Apo Whang-Od and the Butbot tribe," she said.
On a separate post she said: "Hello everyone. Whang Od Academy is not real. I spoke to her and she said she did not understand what the translators were saying. Am sorry to tell you she will not be joining the @nasdaily."
As of the press time, the Whang-Od masterclass has been taken down from the Nas Academy website amid backlash from netizens.
