UAE TO SHIFT WEEKEND TO SATURDAY AND SUNDAY IN 2022

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting next year will be shifting its weekend to Saturday and Sunday, the UAE media office said in a Twitter post on Tuesday.

The move will allow the country to align its economy with the global market, but private companies will be free to choose their own working week.

Currently, UAE has a Friday-Saturday weekend which most of the countries in the Gulf have been implementing.

According to the tweet, the longer weekend in mean to "boost productivity and improve work-life balance."

The changes will start from January 1, 2022, and will apply to federal government agencies.

This means that UAE will be shifting to a "four and half day working week, with Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday forming the new weekend," the tweet said.

Friday working hours will be from 7:30 AM to 12 PM, the announcement said.
