CHMSC OFFICIALLY A STATE UNIVERSITY

Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) in Talisay City with satellite campuses in Bacolod City and Binalbagan town has been officially raised to a state university as approved by the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) En Banc on Tuesday, April 19.

Bacolod Congressman Greg Gasataya who's the author of the said conversion bill confirmed the news, "the conversion would mean more budget, and better opportunities for the CHMSU community," Gasataya said in a statement.

It was in 2019 when President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act (RA) 1136, converting CHMSC into a university adapted from House Bill 8732.

Gasataya added, being a state university will enable CHMSU to offer more academic programs, improve its capacity to accommodate more students and develop and improve academic facilities.

CHMSU becomes the second state university in Negros Occidental after the Central Philippines State University (CPSU) with its main campus in Kabankalan City.
