Tesla CEO Elon Musk has become Twitter's largest shareholder after buying a 9.2 percent stake in the social media giant.
According to the document filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Musk owns 73,486,938 shares of Twitter, with estimated value of $273billion.
The purchase comes weeks after Musk criticized the company, polling people on Twitter about whether it adhere to free speech principles.
Twitter's stock soar by more than 26 percent in pre-market trade before Wall Street opened on Monday.
Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy.
