Boris Johnson will announce his resignation as United Kingdom’s Prime Minister on Thursday, the BBC reported.
This comes after reports of Johnson being abandoned by newly-appointed ministers and more than 50 others.
With eight ministers, including two secretaries of state, resigning in the last two hours, Johnson was set to bow out and declare he was stepping down, media reports said.
“Boris Johnson will resign as Conservative Party leader today,” the BBC's political editor Chris Mason said.
Johnson rose to power in 2019 when he won a large majority of votes in support of his Conservative Party.
UK education minister Michelle Donelan, who was promoted to the role two days ago, quit on Thursday after she said Johnson had put her in “an impossible situation.”
“I am deeply saddened that it has come to this, but as someone who values integrity above all else, I have no choice,” she wrote on Twitter.
