COACH NENAD VUCINIC OF GILAS PILIPINAS RESIGNS

Serbian Nenad Vucinic,57, resigned as both an assistant coach for Gilas Pilipinas and as a consultant to Meralco early this month.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) immediately accepted Vucinic's resignation and said they could do nothing about the former Gilas coach's decision.

"The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas has accepted the decision of not to extend his contract as part of the coaching staff of Gilas Pilipinas to pursue other opportunities," said the SBP.

The resignation has remained under enclosing as the national team concentrates on coming games against Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. Vucinic was speculated to be part of head coach Chot Reyes.

We are grateful for his contributions to the Gilas program and for helping our players compete at an international level... The SBP wishes coach Nenad only the best in his future plans," the SPB added.

Vucinic was once part of the Meralco coaching staff that fell into contention after the San Miguel Beermen lost in their 'do-or-die' Game 7 recently.

It also led Gilas Pilipinas in the third window of the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers recently.

Vucinic still showed up at the Smart Araneta Coliseum for Game Seven of the semifinal series between San Miguel and Meralco, where he was also a consultant to Norman Black.
