VHONG NAVARRO SURRENDERS TO NBI AFTER TAGUIG COURT ISSUED ARREST WARRANT

The It's Showtime host Vhong Navarro surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday after a warrant of arrest was issued by the Taguig court against him for alleged acts of lasciviousness filed by Deniece Cornejo.

“After personally evaluating and taking into consideration the information filed … as well as the allegations in the complaint-affidavit executed by the offended party, which are all under oath, together with the supporting documents attached thereon, the Court finds that there is probable cause to hold the accused for trial,” the order read, signed by Judge Angela Francesca Din.

Navarro will remain under the NBI custody until his recommended bail pg P36,000 gets approved.

The case was related to an incident on January 22, 2014, where Navarro got injured after allegedly attack by a group which included model-stylist Deniece Cornejo and Cedric Lee.

The Court of Appeals granted Cornejo's petition for certiorari and ruled against the resolution of the Department of Justice (DOJ) denying the review of her case against Navarro. In April 2018, the Department of Justice (DOJ) denied the petition for review filed by Cornejo, which challenged a September 2017 resolution that found no probable cause to press charges against Navarro.

“It was erroneous for the DOJ to deny Cornejo’s petition for review on the ground that her statements in the complaint-affidavits are inconsistent and incredible,” the CA said.

“In this regard, it bears to stress that the determination of probable cause does not depend on the validity or merits of a party’s accusation or defense or on the admissibility or veracity of testimonies presented,” the CA added.
