The visa-free entry privilege for Filipinos visiting Taiwan is still remains in effect, according to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines.
Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) chairperson Silvestre Bello III debunked the recently reported removal of the Philippines from the visa-free countries going to Taiwan. After speaking to TECO representative in the Philippines Michael Pei-Yung Hsu, Bello told ABS-CBN Teleradyo's Kabayan program that Filipinos that will enter to the island remains visa-free.
“Tinawagan ko po ’yung kanilang representative dito, ‘yung kumbaga ambassador, at sinabi ko sa kanya na, ‘Totoo ba ‘yun na sinuspinde niyo na ‘yung visa-free entry ng ating kababayan?’” Bello said in an interview.
The announced removal of the Philippines from the list of visa-free countries is "disinformation," Taiwans's de facto embassy in Manila said.
“Sabi niya, ‘That is not true.’ Sabi nga niya that ‘this might be a misunderstanding of the statement of my government,’” Bello added.
Last September 6, Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs said it is "temporary suspending" visa-free privilege for the Philippines including 11 other countries such as Chile, Israel, Japan, Dominican Republic, Republic of Korea, Nicaragua, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, and Russia.
