Maria de Leon, 24, a daughter of Filipina nanny in the U.S. has graduated with honors from the prestigious universities in the world, Harvard. Maria, who is a full scholar graduated with a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
She was born and raised for six years in the Philippines, grew up in Chicago, and attended her pre-med at the Boston, Massachusetts campus of Harvard University.
Maria and family just celebrated her fruitful years when a graduation ceremony was held in person after two years, though she actually graduated two years ago.
In a report by ABS-CBN, it can be seen her wearing a graduation robe to her hood, cap and stole, Maria's mom is one of the proud parents who adorned her for graduation. She even seen raising the Philippine flag, a sign that she's a proud Filipino by blood.
Her pushed to do better for her family comes after her mother had experienced assault, "if we kept trying and always fighting for what you want or what you like, something fruitful will always come out of it," she said.
Meanwhile, her super proud mom Jojit de Leon said:"Para akong tumama sa lotto. Sa ating mga magulang, ang pinakagusto natin ssa ating mga anak ay makatapos ng pag-aaral. Kasi ako, hindi ko nagampanan makatapos ng pag-aaral. Gusto kong maging nurse. And tingnan mo naman ngayon, si Maria is living my dream," she said.
Maria's mom is juggling more than one job including being a nanny to provide her children their needs.
Harvard paid for her family's trip from Chicago to Boston for Maria's graduation. Her father, who still lives in the Philippines was able to flew to the U.S. and celebrate his daughter's success.
