Tragic Bus Accident in Hamtic, Antique Claims at Least 15 Lives

 At least 15 people died after a passenger bus plunged into a cliff in Hamtic, Antique on Tuesday, December 5. The bus, owned by Vallacar Transit Inc., was reported carrying 53 passengers from Iloilo City to San Jose, Antique when it lost control and plunged into a 30-meter deep ravine.


The Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) has confirmed the deaths of 15 individuals, including the bus driver and conductor. However, reports from the Antique provincial government indicate that the number of fatalities may be as high as 25.



According to witnesses, the bus appeared to have lost control as it was navigating a curve along Barangay Igbucagay, Hamtic. The bus encroached the opposite lane, ran over the guard rails, and plunged into the ravine.




Rescue teams from the Hamtic Municipal Police Station and neighboring towns responded to the scene and conducted a search and retrieval operation. One survivor was a 17-year-old pedestrian who was sideswiped while walking at the shoulder of the road.



Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao has assured that the provincial government is doing everything in its power to assist the victims and their families. 

 

She said that rescuers and medical personnel from nearby municipalities have been called in to help, and that all hospital expenses will be covered by the provincial government. She also pledged an initial of P20,000 to the families of those who perished in the crash.
