The Blessed Mother of Marikina Receives Papal Recognition: Our Lady of Fatima to be Crowned
Marikina City, Philippines – In a joyous occasion for the Catholic faithful, Pope Francis has granted the prestigious honor of a pontifical coronation to the beloved image of Our Lady of Fatima enshrined at the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Saint Paul of the Cross in Marikina City.
The news, received on February 14th from the Vatican's Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of Sacraments, marks a significant moment for the diocese and the countless devotees who hold the revered statue close to their hearts.
This canonical coronation signifies the Pope's official recognition of the deep devotion surrounding the image. Through a papal bull, a crown or stellar halo will be bestowed upon the statue, further highlighting its symbolic importance within the area.
Bishop Ruperto Santos expressed his profound gratitude for this "enormous and symbolic gift," emphasizing how it will undoubtedly "deepen our devotion to the Mother of our Lord Jesus, who is also our mother."
This remarkable blessing adds the Marikina Our Lady of Fatima to the ranks of six other venerated Marian images within the Diocese of Antipolo that have received the distinction of a pontifical coronation.
This marks the sixth pontifical coronation within the Diocese of Antipolo, joining the following revered images:
- Nuestra Señora Dela Paz y Buenviaje at the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Antipolo
- Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados at the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of the Abandoned in Marikina
- Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu at the Diocesan Shrine – Parish of Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu in San Mateo
- Nuestra Señora de la Lumen at the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Light in Cainta
- Nuestra Señora del Santísimo Rosario at the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Cardona
Further details on the upcoming ceremony were also revealed. The canonical coronation of Nuestra Señora de Fatima de Marikina will take place during a special Mass celebrated on May 12th at 9 am.
