How to use E-Gates at the airport

E-gates at the airport offer a faster and more convenient way to clear immigration upon arrival at the airport.

Here's a guide to using them efficiently:

1. Prepare your documents.

Before approaching the e-gate, have your boarding pass and passport readily available. The boarding pass needs to be scanned barcode-side down, while the passport needs to be open to the information page with your photo and details.

2. Scan and proceed.

Place your boarding pass on the designated reader for scanning. Once successful, the e-gate will prompt you to scan your passport's information page. Hold it firmly on the reader for a few seconds until the system processes it. If everything is in order, the gate will unlock.

3. Facial recognition and fingerprint scan (optional).

Walk through the opened e-gate and approach the designated area. You might need to face the screen and look directly at the camera. Depending on the airport's system, you may also be prompted to place your right index finger on a fingerprint scanner.

4. Claim your arrival confirmation (If applicable).

Some airports might still provide arrival stickers for passengers using e-gates. If your airport does, proceed to the designated area after the fingerprint scan to collect your sticker. Place it on a blank page in your passport for record-keeping.

While arrival stickers might be discontinued in some places, you can still request a traditional immigration stamp on your passport from an immigration officer stationed near the e-gates.
