BINI faces flak for airport fashion

 Filipino girl group BINI is under fire for their outfits upon arrival at Mactan- Cebu International Airport. A fan page video showed the girls sporting sunglasses, hats, and face masks while being escorted by security.

While they acknowledged and waved to fans, some Filipino netizens criticized their airport attire ("OOTD") for being over-the-top ("OA"). Comparisons were made with other celebrities, with comments accusing them of acting like K-Pop stars and forgetting their Filipino roots.

One Facebook user, Tio Moreno, even compared them to veteran singer Sarah Geronimo, highlighting Sarah's humility as a role model. Moreno expressed his disapproval, suggesting the group was trying to avoid being recognized bay fans. He urged that public figures should be open to criticism and shouldn't be coddled by fans.

 

 

Moreno clarified that he is actually a BINI fan and his criticism was directed solely at their perceived excessive efforts to conceal themselves, not at the group itself.

However, BINI fans have come to their defense. Some argue that celebrities deserve privacy and shouldn't be pressured to show their faces all the time. Others point out that wearing masks and sunglasses is normal, especially for health reasons, and shouldn't be seen as arrogance.

The controversy highlights the issue of toxic fan culture, where netizens criticize celebrities for even basic choices. BINI has yet to comment on the issue, but a recent social media post by member Colet wearing similar attire is seen by fans as a low-key response to the negativity.
