Renowned cardiologist Dr. Willie Ong has disclosed his ongoing battle with cancer. In a heartfelt video message posted on August 29, the former vice-presidential candidate revealed that a large mass was discovered in his abdomen during a routine medical check-up last year.
Ong first noticed symptoms in April 2023, experiencing fatigue, particularly in hot weather, and difficulty completing medical missions. He later developed severe back pain that disrupted his sleep. Despite initial blood tests showing no serious concerns, the pain intensified and shifted to another area.
Following further examinations, Ong was diagnosed with cancer. The tumor, he explained, was unusually large and had spread to several critical areas, including the esophagus, inferior vena cava vein, and the right atrium of his heart.
Currently undergoing chemotherapy, Ong remains optimistic about his prognosis, expressing gratitude for the support of his family and loved ones.
