Meta Connect 2024: A Recap of Key Announcements such as Orion glasses, Quest 3S headset, Meta AI upgrades, Ray-Ban Meta real-time video, and more

 Meta Connect 2024 was a significant event for developers and technology enthusiasts, highlighting Meta's ambitious plans in artificial intelligence (AI) and the metaverse. CEO Mark Zuckerberg delivered a keynote address showcasing new hardware and software advancements that align with these goals.

 




One of the major announcements was the unveiling of the Quest 3S, a more affordable version of the Quest 3 headset. The Quest 3S offers a wireless experience and is compatible with existing Quest apps and games.

Meta also introduced the Orion, a fully AR glasses prototype that promises a lightweight design, hand-tracking, eye-tracking, and even a neural interface. While not available to consumers immediately, the Orion represents Meta's vision for the future of AR.



In terms of AI, Meta announced several updates to its Llama AI model. Llama 3.2 11B and 90B now possess multimodal capabilities, allowing them to interpret charts, caption images, and identify objects in pictures. Additionally, Meta AI is becoming more accessible with voice-based interaction through platforms like Messenger, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram.



Other notable announcements included upgrades to the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, featuring real-time AI video processing, language translation, and integration with music streaming services. Meta also showcased its AI's ability to respond to prompts based on images and edit photos.




Overall, Meta Connect 2024 demonstrated the company's commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and its vision for a future where AI and the metaverse play a significant role in our daily lives.
