The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons continued their undefeated streak in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament, dismantling the Far Eastern University Tamaraws 69-58 at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.
Francis Lopez led the way for UP with 13 points and four rebounds in just 13 minutes of action, contributing significantly to the team's 4-0 record. Quentin Millora-Brown added 11 points and 13 boards.
The Diliman-based squad dominated the game from start to finish, pulling away in the second quarter. After a narrow 19-15 lead at the end of the first period, UP erupted for 20 points while holding FEU to just seven, taking a commanding 39-22 advantage going into halftime.
The Maroons' lead swelled to as much as 25 points, 69-44, following back-to-back shots by Denzil Walker and Reyland Torres. Although the Tamaraws made a late push with 14 unanswered points, it was too little, too late.
"We've been working hard to improve every day," said Millora-Brown. "We know we have a lot more to achieve. This is just the fourth game of the season, and we have a lot more to accomplish."
Janjan Felicilda contributed nine points off the bench, while JD Cagulangan finished with seven markers, five assists, and four boards. Adam Nakai and Jorick Bautista chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
All of UP's wins this season have been by double-digit margins. The Fighting Maroons will look to extend their streak to five on Saturday against Adamson. Meanwhile, the struggling Tamaraws (0-4) will face La Salle on Wednesday in hopes of securing their first victory.
