The combined impact of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine and Super Typhoon Leon has resulted in a tragic loss of life, with the death toll climbing to 139, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
While only 14 deaths have been officially validated so far, with the majority occurring in Bicol, Central Luzon, Cordillera, and Northern Mindanao, the remaining 125 deaths are still under investigation. Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Central Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula have reported the highest number of unverified fatalities.
Additionally, 21 people remain missing across several regions, and 86 injuries have been reported.
The storms have affected over 1.7 million families, displacing millions more. Thousands of families are currently seeking shelter in evacuation centers, while others are receiving aid outside.
The extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture has been estimated at billions of pesos.
