Former Radio Host Alan Jones Charged with Multiple Assaults

Sydney, Australia – Renowned Australian radio host Alan Jones has been charged with 24 counts of assault and sexual touching. The charges stem from allegations made against him by the Sydney Morning Herald last year.

Police confirmed the arrest of an 83-year-old man in Sydney, widely identified as Jones. The alleged offenses occurred between 2001 and 2019, involving eight victims, some of whom had professional or personal relationships with Jones. The youngest victim was 17 at the time of the alleged incident.

Assistant Commissioner Michael Fitzgerald expressed confidence that more victims would come forward following the formal charges. While Jones has denied the allegations, police attribute the progress of the case to the significant public attention generated by the initial reports.

Known for his provocative style and sharp tongue, Jones was a prominent figure in Australian media. He hosted the popular Sydney breakfast show on 2GB for nearly two decades until 2020. His controversial remarks, such as suggesting physical violence against political opponents, often sparked public outrage and legal action.

Following the allegations, Jones stepped away from his role at a digital start-up. Before his media career, he was a successful rugby coach, leading the Wallabies to a historic Grand Slam tour in 1984.
