The Iloilo River came alive on November 24th as over 500 paddlers from 11 teams across the Philippines gathered for the highly anticipated return of the Iloilo River Dragon Boat Festival (IRDBF).
After a five-year hiatus, the festival made a triumphant comeback, featuring thrilling races in categories like Senior Mixed 200 meters, Women Small Boat, Mixed Standard Boat, and Open Standard Boat. Held at the picturesque Muelle Loney, the event attracted teams from Iloilo, Cebu, Bohol, Manila, Boracay, and Aklan.
With the support of Double Dragon Corporation, the festival kicked off on November 22nd and culminated in the exciting Double Dragon Boat Race on the 24th. The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) officiated the races, ensuring a fair and competitive environment.
Allan Tan, president of the Iloilo Festival Foundation Inc. (IFFI), expressed the festival's aim to foster a lasting dragon boat culture in the city. "The IRDBF embodies the spirit of unity, the city's commitment to eco-tourism and river preservation, and highlights the Iloilo River as a vital cultural treasure," he said.
