June Mar Fajardo Claims Historic 8th PBA MVP Award

In a testament to his enduring dominance and unwavering dedication, June Mar Fajardo has once again etched his name into the annals of PBA history. The San Miguel Beermen superstar was crowned the league's Most Valuable Player (MVP) for Season 48, marking an unprecedented eighth time he has received this prestigious honor.

Fajardo's remarkable achievement solidifies his status as arguably the greatest player in PBA history.  He surpassed Ramon Fernandez and Alvin Patrimonio, who both have four MVP awards, long ago. Now, he continues to distance himself from the pack, setting a record that may never be broken.

The 6-foot-10 "Kraken" was a force to be reckoned with throughout Season 48, leading the Beermen to back-to-back finals appearances, including a championship in the Commissioner's Cup. His dominant presence in the paint, combined with his improved all-around game, proved too much for opposing teams to handle.

Fajardo's statistical dominance was undeniable. He led the league in rebounding (13.4 RPG) and was a consistent scorer (17.8 PPG), while also contributing significantly in assists (2.8 APG) and blocks (1.7 BPG).  Beyond the numbers, Fajardo's impact on his team's success was evident in their consistent deep playoff runs.

This latest MVP award is a testament to Fajardo's resilience.  After suffering a career-threatening leg injury in 2020, many doubted if he could return to his peak form.  He not only returned but came back stronger, winning back-to-back MVP awards in 2023 and 2024.

"Noong nainjure ako, nabali ang tibia ko, nagcross talaga sa isip ko na baka yun na ang end ng career ko. Kasi malala," Fajardo shared, reflecting on his injury.  His ability to overcome adversity and return to the pinnacle of the sport is an inspiration to aspiring athletes everywhere.

The PBA Season 48 awards ceremony was held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, where Fajardo received the Leo Trophy, named after the league's first commissioner, Leo Prieto.  The ceremony also saw Barangay Ginebra's  Scottie Thompson and Christian Standhardinger recognized for their outstanding seasons, finishing second and third in the MVP race respectively.

With eight MVP awards and counting, June Mar Fajardo has cemented his legacy as a PBA legend. As he continues to defy expectations and dominate the league, the question remains: how high can the Kraken climb?
