In a thrilling match of the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference, Akari Chargers overcame an early setback to defeat their sister team Nxled Chameleons. The Chargers, led by their captain Michelle Cobb, were off to a strong start, leading 5-3 in the second set, when a tragic incident occurred. Cobb, while chasing a ball, rolled over and landed awkwardly on her neck. The 5-foot-4 setter from La Salle was stretchered off the court and taken to Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan for further evaluation.
Despite losing their captain, the Chargers rallied with four players reaching double figures in points. Ivy Lacsina led the way with 17 points, followed by Eli Soyud and Faith Nisperos with 15 points each. "We drew strength from Ate Mich," said Lacsina. "We knew she wanted us to play as one and win the game for her."
The Chargers' victory was even more impressive considering that they were playing without their starting setter, Kamille Cal, who was also injured. Cal, who had been feeling pain in her elbow before the game, still managed to contribute 12 excellent sets and six points.
The Chargers now hold a 4-4 record, placing them solo seventh in the standings with three games left in the preliminaries. They will face Capital1, Choco Mucho, and Cignal in their upcoming matches.
