Bacolod City is on alert as Kanlaon Volcano continues to show signs of unrest.  The Bacolod Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) has identified ten barangays that could be significantly affected by ashfall if an eruption occurs.  Based on population data released by City Hall, these barangays are:

  •     Estefania: 42,431 residents
  •     Mansilingan: 27,526 residents
  •     Taculing: 26,486 residents
  •     Handumanan: 25,921 residents
  •     Pahanocoy: 21,654 residents

The DRRMO is urging residents in these areas to be vigilant and prepared.  In the event of ashfall, the following precautions are advised:

  •     Stay indoors: Avoid unnecessary exposure to ashfall, which can cause respiratory problems and eye irritation.
  •     Wear protective gear: If going outside is unavoidable, wear a face mask and eye protection.
  •     Secure food and water: Cover food and water sources to prevent contamination.
  •     Listen for updates: Stay tuned to local news and announcements from the DRRMO for the latest information and advisories.

The City Government is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure the safety of its citizens.  Evacuation plans are in place should the need arise.  Residents are encouraged to cooperate with authorities and follow safety guidelines to minimize the impact of a potential eruption.
