Manila – Malacañang has confirmed that Monday, January 27, 2025, will be a holiday for Muslims in observance of Isra Wal Mi’raj, the Night Journey and Ascension of the Prophet Muhammad.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin announced on Sunday that the holiday will be observed specifically within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and other Muslim areas across the country.

“Not a National Holiday, but a Muslim holiday only in BARMM and other Muslim areas defined in the Muslim Code,” Bersamin clarified.

He further emphasized that Muslims residing in areas where Isra Wal Mi'raj is not officially a holiday, such as the National Capital Region, are excused from reporting for work.

In Islamic tradition, Isra Wal Mi’raj commemorates the night when Prophet Muhammad miraculously journeyed from Mecca to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and then ascended to the seven heavens.

In his message to Filipino Muslims, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended his well wishes for a meaningful observance of Al-Isra Wal Mi'raj 2025, urging them to strive for diligence and perseverance in their pursuits of success.

This declaration allows Muslim communities to fully participate in the religious and cultural significance of Isra Wal Mi'raj.
