MANILA, Philippines – The grand procession of the Black Nazarene, known as Traslacion, is set to take place this Thursday, January 9th, in Manila.  Millions of devotees are anticipated to participate in the 14-16 hour journey of the life-sized, dark wooden statue of Jesus Christ from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church.  

Manila Mayor Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna expects the turnout to be similar to last year's, with an estimated 6 million devotees attending.


 


Traslacion 2025 Route

The 5.8 kilometer procession will follow the same route as in 2024, passing through three plazas and parks, 18 national and city roads, six bridges, and one underpass.  

The procession will begin at Quirino Grandstand and proceed through the following areas:

  •     Katigbak Drive (left side)
  •     Padre Burgos Street through Finance Road   
  • Ayala Bridge  
  • Palanca Street  
  • Quezon Boulevard
  • Arlegui Street
  • Fraternal Street
  • Vergara Street
  • Duque de Alba Street  
  • Castillejos Street
  • Farnecio Street
  • Arlegui Street
  • Nepomuceno Street
  • Concepcion Aguila Street
  • Carcer Street
  • Hidalgo Street through Plaza del Carmen  
  •     Bilibid Viejo Street through Gonzalo Puyat Street
  •     J.P. de Guzman Street
  •     Hidalgo Street
  •     Quezon Boulevard
  •     Palanca Street under Quezon Bridge
  •     Villalobos Street through Plaza Miranda
  •     Quiapo Church

Schedule of Activities

Quirino Grandstand:

  •     January 6: Mass for the volunteers
  •     January 7 to 9: Pahalik (veneration of the Black Nazarene)   
  •     January 8: Band parade (3pm), Panalangin ng Takipsilim (5pm)
  •     January 9: Misa Mayor (12am), vigil and program (1am)


Quiapo Church:

  •     January 8: Masses at 5am, 6am, 7am, 8am, 9am, 10am, 12:15pm; fiesta Masses at 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm
  •     January 9: Hourly Masses at 12am to 11pm

Security Measures

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy 12,000 personnel to ensure public safety during Traslacion.  The PNP Intelligence Group and Anti-Cybercrime Group will monitor potential threats, while the Highway Patrol Group and local traffic enforcers will manage traffic flow and implement rerouting schemes.  

Reminders for Devotees

  • Quiapo Church has issued the following reminders for devotees:
  •     Do not climb the Andas (carriage for the Black Nazarene).   
  •     Do not push other devotees.
  •     Travel light.
  •     Eat before the procession.
  •     Do not use umbrellas, caps, or hoodies.
  •     Do not set up camping tents or tables.
  •     Do not bring tumblers, drone cameras, professional cameras, selfie sticks, portable appliances, large bags, alcoholic beverages, food sticks, or pets.
  •     Tug the rope connected to the Andas with order and care.
  •     Maintain the spirit of holiness during Mass.
  •     Keep Quiapo Church and Quirino Grandstand clean.
  •     Sick devotees and children should remain on the side of the road.

Additional Information

  •     A gun ban will be in effect in Manila from January 8 to 11.  
  •    A liquor ban will be in place from January 8 to 10.  
  •   January 9, 2025, has been declared a special non-working day in Manila.  
  •     The procession can be watched on livestream on various media pages.
  •     Masses can be watched live on the official Facebook page of Quiapo Church and TV Maria.
