Single mom Filipina finds hope after kind-hearted couple help raise her son while juggling life in Alberta, Canada

This Filipino immigrant found her new family in small-town in Alberta, Canada who offered an extraordinary act of kindness. While she was juggling life in Canada, Dixie Marie Judilla, who is working on a temporary visa got pregnant.

She arrived in Claresholm in December and was working at the local Dairy Queen making Blizzards.

Her dream for her family in the Philippines seemed impossible and in the midst of shadow after she found out she was going to be a mom. Her situation was difficult as a single mom, considering "foreign worker, you're not entitled, you don't have any benefits and nannies are expensive," she told CBC news.

So, her decision is that, after giving birth she will send her son back to the Philippines and let her parents take care of him at the moment, while she earn money in Canada.

Until she found Mr. and Mrs. Gerd and Elaine Schmidt, an empty nesters and retired. Gerd, who's a regular customer at the Claresholm Dairy Queen had a good exchange with Judilla when he learned her plans to send her baby back to the Philippines. Thanks to this local couple with pure heart who offered to watch baby Dominic while she was working.

Dominic, who turns 10  was able to stay in Canada with his mother.

"Staying in Claresholm, I met these good people with a good heart, Canadians who helped me … take care of my son for free without even asking for anything in return," Judilla said.

Thirteen years and many snowstorms later, Judilla decided to stay and has no plans to leave rural Alberta. She has gained her Canadian permanent residency and now works at an Alberta Health Services long-term care facility.
