HARNAAZ SANDHU CROWNED MISS UNIVERSE 2021 BIO, LIFE STORY, AND MORE

India's Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu bested 79 other candidates to bring home the crown after 21 years from the prestigious Miss Universe pageant in Israel on December 13. The 21-year old beauty queen describes herself as an introvert and says she was once a victim of body-shamed in various occasions.

Sandhu is a fun-loving girl from the city of Chandigarh. She is currently taking up her master's degree in public administration. She also loves acting, dancing, swimming, and horse riding.

She began her pageant journey when she was 17 years old and has won several titles such as Miss Chandigarh 2017 and Miss Max Emerging Star India in 2018. After that she continue her pageant journey and became part of Femina Miss India in 2019.

Her experience have prompted her to normalize mental health issues and the fact that it is okay to not be okay at times.

“Hardships and struggles are a part of everyone’s life and what we need to understand is how to have a positive outlook towards every situation that hits us because if God has given us challenges, they have also given us the power to come out of it," she said.

She also spoke about her source of inspiration, from two strong women she have known, her mother and Priyanka Chopra.

Speaking about the former Miss World crown winner, she said, “Priyanka has influenced my life immensely as her aura reflects courage, determination, and a never-give-up attitude. Since her pageant days, she has been representing India phenomenally and has made India proud on a global level, and that is what I, too, aspire to do. She truly is an inspiration to me and many others.”

During the Q&A portion in the Miss Universe night, Sandhu was asked about her position on climate change.

"Honestly, my heart breaks to see how nature is going through a lot of problems and it's all due to irresponsible behavior. I totally feel that this is the time to take actions and talk less because our each action could either kill or save nature, prevent and protect is better than repent and repair and this is what I'm trying to convince you guys today," she answered.

Meanwhile, she was congratulated by PM Narendra Modi on "being crowned Miss Universe. Best wishes to her for her future endeavours," he said.

Sandhu is the third woman who won the Miss Universe title following Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000.
