A social media post of a father is going viral for the 'hardest decisions' he made. Instead of his wife which supposed to undergo the procedure, he dared to have a vasectomy because he felt that a mother had enough sacrifices since pregnancy and childbirth.
In a Facebook post of Emmanuel "Eman" Cortez, 29, he said that he and his wife Marifel, 27, decided to undergo a permanent contraception after the unexpected pregnancy for their third child last year. Initially, they wanted to have three to four kids but due to some reasons they change the plan and contented to have three.
So, they started looking for the hospitals where Marifel can undergo tubal ligation. After they find a hospital, the couple was invited to attend the orientation at the General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial hospital in Cavite last June 2019.
"Pinaliwanag sa amin kung ano ang gagawin sa kanya medyo kinakabahan nanaman ako (katulad nung kaba nung nakita ko yung ulo ng anak ko habang nilalabas nya)," he said on his Facebook post.
In the orientation, they also learned that the procedure is not only limited for women, but a surgical procedure that men can also get to prevent pregnancy. Even that he was hesitant at first, Eman realized that this could be the only way to help his wife.
"First impression syempre gagalawin si junjun mabuti kung si misis ang gagawa. Sa atin mga lalaki tuli lang usual operation na I-undergo natin sa buong buhay natin tapos yung misconceptions na ka-kapunin (Parang aso lang). Pero, pinaliwanag na lahat ng "Akala" natin sa VASECTOMY ay mali."
Marifel was scheduled to undergo ligation that day, but since she was required to be confined and it wasn't on their plan, they decided to postpone the operation.
"For schedule na sana kami kaya lang God's will na rin siguro na hindi natuloy since need I-confine sya due to the required anesthesia na gagamitin sa kanya. Wala sa plano ang confinement kaya sabi nya mag-lose muna sya ng weight para local anesthesia nalang ang gagamitin," Eman explained.
"Fast forward to present, may scheduled na ligation and vasectomy gusto na namin, decided na kami. Naka-mind set na sa kanya na magpapa-ligate na sya na hindi nya alam may niluluto na akong plano. Nagpunta na kame ng hospital maraming mommies na for ligation. Pero, wala pang daddy na for vasectomy.
"Tiningnan ko agad si Esposa natatawa na ko habang tinitingnan siya kasi alam ko kinakabahan na siya sabi ko pa sa kanya Goodluck with a grin. Pero sa totoo lang awang awa ako sa nakita naming misis sobrang dami ng sakripisyo nila yung buwanang dalaw palang mahirap na eh manganganak pa ng ilang beses jusme malolosyang pa wawa naman so why not tayong mga lalaki naman ang mag-sacrifice? Lumapit na ko sa health worker sabi ko for vasectomy po, pero nagulat ako feeling ko ang pogi ko.
"Nakita ko sa mga expression ng mukha nila na natuwa sila ng may poging tatay na willing mag-sacrifice para sa pinakamamahal nila Joke lang po yung poging tatay. Nagulat din ang asawa ko, sabi nya sure na ba daw ako? Wala ng bawian. At dun na nga nag-simula.
"During assessment kabado na rin ako para akong bata na hinatid ni nanay para magpatuli natatakot na ako. Pero sabi ko kaya ko to. Para sa asawa ko at sa pamilya namin. After 30 mins, sumalang na ako at 15 mins lang tapos na mga dre wala akong naramdaman except sa parang nabayagan ng walang sakit."
