Kent Pastrana's Clutch Performance Lifts UST Over Adamson

Kent Pastrana overcame a subpar shooting performance to lead the University of Santo Tomas (UST) to a 58-55 victory over Adamson University in the UAAP Season 87 women's basketball tournament on Sunday at the Adamson Gym.

Despite struggling offensively, Pastrana came through when it mattered most. She stole the ball from Adamson's Cris Padilla and converted a layup to give UST a 57-55 lead. The Lady Falcons then squandered their chance to tie the game, with Padilla missing a three-pointer and Kat Agojo failing to convert a floater. Brigette Santos' split free throws with 9.8 seconds left extended UST's advantage to three points.

Cheska Apag's missed three-pointer sealed Adamson's first loss of the season, while the Tigresses improved to 3-0. UST coach Haydee Ong praised her team's resilience despite their slow start and defensive lapses.

Pastrana finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks, while Rachelle Ambos and Agatha Bron also contributed significantly to UST's second-half comeback.

The Tigresses prevailed despite shooting a dismal 29% from the field and committing 19 turnovers. They also allowed Adamson to attempt 21 free throws.

Adamson's third-year guard, Padilla, led her team with 19 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The Lady Falcons will face a tough challenge against Ateneo on Saturday.

UST will need to regroup quickly as they prepare for their next game against National University on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
