Thomas De Luzuriaga from Bacolod City has emerged as the Classic Division champion at the recent International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Australasia 2024 Handgun Championship in Bali, Indonesia. More than 600 competitors from 40+ countries vied for 6 handgun division titles and he bagged the overall championship, beating European champion Robert Cernigov who eventually placed 3rd.
His impressive performance secured him the top spot, while Alfredo Catalan Jr. and Lenard Lopez finished as first and second runners-up, respectively. De Luzuriaga's brother, Carlos, also made a strong showing, placing in the top 10.
Philippines Sweeps Classic Division:
The Philippines dominated the Classic Division, claiming the overall championship title. Thailand and Australia followed as first and second runners-up, respectively. Philippine Army personnel and reservists showcased their exceptional marksmanship skills and warfighting readiness throughout the competition.
Notable Achievements:
Major Lenard Lopez secured the Team Classic Division Championship, earning a Gold Medal and an Overall 3rd Place Bronze Medal. Team Philippines also clinched the overall championship in the Classic Category. Sergeant Willard Carrera won the Team Production Division Championship, earning a Gold Medal and finishing 3rd overall with a Bronze Medal.
Individual Accomplishments:
Staff Sergeant Jerome Morales (RES) distinguished himself as the Production Optics Senior Champion and Production Optics Team Champion, securing Gold Medals in both categories. He also won the Production Optics Senior Shoot-Off Champion title.
Other Participants:
The Army also recognized the contributions of Lieutenant Colonel Mark Anthony Lasam PA, Lieutenant Colonel Hans Oliver Bearneza PA, Major Allan Guibone PA, and reservist Edrick Chan.
IPSC Australasia 2024:
The Australasia Handgun Championship is an IPSC level 4 championship held every third year in the Australasia region. This year's event took place in Bali, Indonesia, from August 20 to September 1, 2024.
