The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is closely watching two low pressure areas (LPAs), one of which has already entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
According to PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio, both LPAs have a high probability of developing into tropical cyclones. The LPA inside PAR is currently located 830 kilometers east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon and is expected to move westward towards Taiwan and Batanes.
The other LPA, situated 2,425 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, is forecast to enter PAR by Wednesday or Thursday if it continues its northwesterly movement. If both LPAs intensify into tropical cyclones, they will be named Ferdie and Gener.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon (habagat) is expected to have a minimal impact on the country today. However, PAGASA warns of intermittent rains brought by the habagat over the western parts of Northern Luzon and Central Luzon.
The Philippines recently experienced the wrath of Severe Tropical Storm Enteng, which reportedly claimed 20 lives. The combined damage caused by Enteng and the habagat to infrastructure has now reached a staggering P698.9 million, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
