Six Philippine Universities Make Global Rankings in 2025

The Philippines has achieved a significant milestone in higher education with six universities ranked among the best in the world. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) announced on Wednesday, October 9, that the number of globally ranked Philippine higher education institutions (HEIs) has continued to rise, with the inclusion of a public university in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) made its debut in the rankings, joining Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), the University of the Philippines (UP), De La Salle University (DLSU), Mapúa University, and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in the prestigious list.

Here are the six Philippine HEIs that secured the following places in the 2025 rankings:

1. Ateneo de Manila University (1001 - 1200)
2. University of the Philippines (1201 - 1500)
3. De La Salle University (1501+)
4. Mapúa University (1501+)
5. Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (1501+)
6. University of Santo Tomas (1501+)

CHED Secretary Popoy De Vera expressed his pride in the increasing number of Philippine HEIs participating in international assessments and rankings. He emphasized that the inclusion of these universities in top-tier rankings, both in THE and other international bodies, demonstrates the globalized outlook and competitiveness of Philippine higher education. De Vera attributed this achievement to the collective efforts of Philippine HEIs, supported by CHED and the national government.

CHED noted that President Marcos has recognized the substantial increase in globally ranked Philippine HEIs, from 52 last year to 87 as of June 2024. In response to this positive trend, CHED is developing a comprehensive national strategy to further enhance the country's performance in global rankings and promote the ongoing growth and development of its higher education system. The Commission plans to collaborate closely with universities and other stakeholders to elevate the Philippines' standing in the global higher education arena.

This achievement is a testament to the Philippines' commitment to providing high-quality education and fostering a competitive academic landscape. As more Philippine universities gain international recognition, the country's reputation as a global higher education hub continues to strengthen.
